1. Crayonbrain Attribution

You do not need to credit Crayonbrain when you share music, videos, or projects you create here.

  • Private projects: Compositions and exports you keep to yourself are yours. No attribution to Crayonbrain is expected.
  • Public posts on the feed: As described in our Terms of Service, a version you post publicly is released under Creative Commons Zero (CC0). Others may use that posted version without crediting you

  • Drum and instrument samples: These are CC0 (public domain). You do not need to attribute those samples in your releases.

2. Butterchurn Attribution

Butterchurn is a web port of the Milkdrop visualizer, made by Jordan Berg and licensed under the MIT License. Related packages: butterchurn-presets (MIT) and milkdrop-preset-converter (MIT). Milkdrop was created by Ryan Geiss (Nullsoft / Winamp). Milkdrop 1.x source was released under a 3-clause BSD license.

If you're a creator using Butterchurn in your work, you should consider naming the preset somewhere.

The visualizer itself is open source, however most of the presets for it are unlicensed. This creates a gray area where the author hasn't given you permission to use their work, but they also haven't explicitly stated that you can't. You should know that the presets are not easy to make, they're complicated math scripts that took a huge amount of time and technical knowledge.

It's worth at least some attempt at acknowledgment. At the very least, don't try to claim authorship of specific presets.
